Q: What is SQL Code Camp?
A: ““SQL Down Under Code Camp is an annual community-driven event for SQL Server professionals. Each year, well over a hundred DBAs and Developers come together to learn from each other and to network. It is held in October at the Wagga Wagga campus of our friends at Charles Sturt University.”
This is an last minute reminder that SQL Code Camp (Australia) is on this weekend (the 10th and 11th of October) in Wagga (NSW). This year’s presentation/agenda has been posted here. Last year I did a presentation (with Matt Lynch) on SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 and the Entity Framework 1.0 which was well received.
Now that SQL Server 2008 is in mainstream use, we can expect to hear stories from the field including ways to take advantage of the newest functionality which SQL 2008 brings to the Enterprise. Presentations I’d recommend are:
- The dangers of BEGIN and END – Rob Farley
- Effective SQL Server indexing – Greg Low
- Reading SQL Server Execution Plans – Greg Low and
- Extreme Reporting Services with spermlines – Grant Paisley
Although, they are all great sessions.
If you are a SQL professional, a Microsoft-aligned developer or if you are studying either field – SQL Code Camp is a great way to increase your knowledge on database technology and meet fellow professionals or students and expand your horizons. SQL Code Camp is also a great way to rub shoulders with some of Australia’s best SQL Professionals, and meet new people.
Unfortunately, I am unable to make the journey from the Gold Coast to Wagga Wagga this weekend (my fault, poor foresight) as I am due in Canberra the following weekend for a wedding. You will catch me at Code Camp Oz next April though (potentially) if not, next year’s SQL Code Camp.
