More surfing the interweb has turned up this patch from Microsoft. It’s not been included thus far with Automatic Updates, but is available as a separate download.
I’m installing it today to gauge for myself whether the patch does indeed stabilize Vista because my recent experiences have been horrible. Just yesterday, the Windows Vista system process (the NT Kernel) for some reason started maxing the Laptop’s CPU for no apparent reason. The only course of action was to reboot.
You might wonder whether anything was running which could cause this condition, but the answer is, no. Not a good sign that the CPU should be killed by the system kernel, and the various tooling which exists for tracing performance issues provides no indication of why this has occurred.
Hopefully this patch will address some of these concerns!?
