There’s an auction coming up shortly at Christie’s according to this story from the NY times (online).
Included is a copy of Nicolaus Copernicus’s book “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” printed in 1543 which arguably kicked off an era of thought which contravened the thinking of the day (predominantly driven my ecclesiastic dogma) that the Earth was the center of the universe.
Copernicus’ writings inspired some of the great thinkers of the past four centuries including Gallileo. It would be quite the rare treat to be able to scan through such an important historical and scientific artifact. Can someone loan me the $1 million dollars so I can buy this? Please?
For those who can’t afford the pricetag, check out alternate copies from AbeBooks. Note: there is evidently another first edition floating around for USD $1.5 million.
