Getting back on the horse

So, those of you who know me also know that I’m, well, a bit out of shape.
To be honest, I’ve been getting progressively worse since wife and I came back to Australia from living abroad.

I’ve got over the 80kgs barrier for the first time in my life, and I’m not at all happy about it.
Firstly, because it puts me into the dangerously overweight category and secondly because I’ve not gone beyond 78kgs in my life (until now).

Partly, this is to blame for a lack of stimulus (motivation to do some exercise) after hours, and the second part is perhaps winter.
Anyhow, I’m committing to going back to running at lunchtimes to see if I can shed a few pounds.

So, I’m curious – how do you beat the wintertime blues and stay in shape?  What works for you; what doesn’t?
I’m really in need of some advice here, because running alone isn’t going to do it.
