What I dislike about Subversion

So yesterday I tore out some more hair trying to duel with Subversion (SVN).  I’m not using the Ankh Visual Studio plugin (as yet).
What ended up happening was that somehow SVN got the idea that I wanted to delete a Web.config file.
Somehow it got committed, and also purged from my local copy.  Egad.  So I spent about 20 minutes trying to ensure it was all safe and happy – locally. The repository was actually fine (the commit didn’t take effect I guess), but the local signature files were out of sync.
Anyhow, to cut a long story short, does anyone know of a way to fix the local system state when the signature files go out of sync?
Interested to find a solution (an easier one then replacing the working path).
