Just bumped into this gem in a JB HIFI catalog and immediately bought the last set they had in store: "Stanley Kubrick – Directors Series" from Warner Home Video.
The set includes: 2001: A Space Odyssey (Two-Disc Special Edition), A Clockwork Orange (Two-Disc Special Edition), The Shining (Two-Disc Special Edition), Eyes Wide Shut (Two-Disc Special Edition), Full Metal Jacket (Deluxe Edition), and A Life in Pictures (documentary).
The set promises re-mastered films, which until now had been giving me pause to purchase the previous boxed sets (reviews of, say, The Shining had been less than glowing)
There is a fairly comprehensive review over at IGN which probably reviewed the Region 1 edition (not too worry), all the review did was to confirm my suspicions that the new set included proper anamorphic widescreen editions.
From the review:
"2001: A Space Odyssey is presented in anamorphic widescreen format (2.20:1), which maintains the presentation of previous DVDs. A Clockwork Orange is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.66:1) which maintains the presentation of previous DVDs. The Shining is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) for the first time, maintaining the original theatrical presentation. Full Metal Jacket is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.66:1) for the first time, preserving the aspect ratio of the original theatrical presentation. And Eyes Wide Shut is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.66:1) for the first time, preserving the aspect ratio of the original theatrical presentation. Meanwhile, the documentary Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) for the general documentary material, while the clips remain accurate to each film." – IGN DVD Review
You can buy it from ezydvd (when they get it back in stock) or go down to the local JB HIFI (it was only AUD $64.95 there) or any good DVD retailer.
